"The Town of Holden was incorporated on January 9, 1741. Originally a rural farming area, we have grown into a prosperous, community-spirited municipality with a population, as of January 2005, of 17,036 residents. In June of 1951, the Town adopted a Selectmen-Town Manager form of government, one of the oldest in the Commonwealth. In addition to having an excellent school system and public library, the municipality provides a full range of services including public water, sewer, and electric power. The Town encompasses approximately thirty-six square miles, a good portion of which is protected open space, watershed and recreational areas.

The Holden Council on Aging gives assistance to seniors and their families by providing services and activities that will enable them to stay independent and living in their own homes for as long as possible. Information and referral services and support groups are available for seniors and their families."

The Holden Council On Aging uses the CARE (Call Reassurance) phone system to provide its senior citizens with a phone reassurance service. Citizens can be called daily free of charge to ensure their well-being.
